l have, l believe, advanced periodontal disease. My gum has been eaten away at one tooth (left, 3rd from middle at the bottom) and the roots are very much exposed. l really need to get it checked out by a dentist (my dad) who l will not see for another month because l live 5 hours away for school. l am absolutely certain my case requires a specialist to surgically remove the tooth, but l was wondering if there is anything l can do to keep it from getting worse. l have been brushing my teeth after each meal with Colgate Total Advanced and rinsed my mouth with ACT mouth wash after every meal as well. l also take 500 mg amoxicillin twice a day. Anything else l can do to take care of this ordeal until my dad can check out my (very very sad) tooth? [By the way, to all youngsters out there: do NOT smoke cigarettes after taking ecstasy; its the worse thing that can happen to your teeth; I've quit smoking for a month now because of this]

You need to be referred by your dentist to see a periodantal specialist.
You will have a full examination with X-Rays and a course of treatment. It is very expensive as it is private and not covered by the NHS. Periodontal disease can lead to other serious conditions if left untreated such as strokes and heartaches. Please do something about your condition before things get much worse

It sounds like you're pretty young, so unless u have one of the more rare types of periodontal disease, ur probably do not have advanced periodontal disease. Chronic periodontal disease is slow onset & progresses slowly. Going by ur description, it sounds like you're talking about ur canine tooth. These teeth on the bottom r prone to recession, especially by people who r overzealous brushers, which it sounds like u might be. Brushing too hard can definitely cause damage to ur gums.

It is possible it might be a localized case of periodontal disease. But if u have true chronic advanced periodontal disease u would see other areas that would bring up concern as well.

Get to ur dental professional ASAP. In the meantime, brush twice a day with a soft toothbrush & floss once a day. The only thing that can help stop the progression of periodontal disease is to get the plaque off ur teeth, especially under the gum line & between the teeth. So try not to panic, or brush too hard. Its probably nothing too serious. There r procedures such as grafts they can do so the root of ur tooth wo not be exposed if its just from physical abrasion.
