is it possible to fix an underbite with braces and rubber bands or head gear?i dont think my underbite is that bad but my top teeth dont meet the bottom nothing hurts or anything n im only 16 the dentist recommends me 2 wait 2 years n then get surgery n says braces prob. not work but another one said to get the braces n it might help about 50-70% the other orthodontist said that he just wants my money BUT has any1 tried the braces w rubber bands and or headgear and did it work?pls help

It absolutely will help. l had an overbite from HELL, lol and had braces for a couple years and wore the bands for last year and they did help correct my overbite, and it will do the same thing for your underbite. The bands hurt like a SOB when they first put them on but keep wearing them for a week or so and the discomfort will go away. ;)

It is very hard to diagnose the extent of the problem & propose a course of treatment without taking a look at the x-rays, ur mouth & the models.

However, it sounds like u do have severe under-bite.

If l were u l would get at least a second opinion though.

Sometimes the growth of the jaws can be manipulated to correct the major problems to a certain degree since u r only 15 & still have some potential for growth.

Jaw surgeries do come with associated risks, & l personally believe that the conventional Orthodontic Treatment will be enough in ur case.

l would choose to see if any Orthodontist can offer u a more conservative approach.

NOTE :

Most of the time after 18 the insurance does not cover the cost for Orthodontic Treatment.

So, get it done soon.

l used to have an under bite too, and l had braces put on for about 3-4 years and my teeth became perfectly normal! l had the rubber bands, but no head gear. Also, do not get surgery! One dentist tried talking me into doing that. Possibly getting my jaw cracked open to fix my bite was not necessary at all..and my bite was really bad too. But after you get the braces off you will most likely need to wear a retainer every night so your bite wont shift.
