My upper jaw is the side of a 7-8 yr old kid....while my lower jaw is normal. I am 21, and would like to know if jaw surgery is the only way to go to fix this? Even so, l do not understand how they can make the top meet with the bottom? anyone explain?

Yeah, pretty much. Especially at ur age, u do not have any growth to figure into the mix. The surgery is really a lot better today than it was several years ago. They do not wire the jaws shut anymore. Prolly the worst part is the cost. They can really make the function of the jaw & the aesthetics of the face so much better.

Even in cases where the child has worn braces since they were little kids, if the jaw grows past the size of the upper teeth, they have to have surgery.

Good luck, get a couple opinions & find the best surgeon u can.
