If l was in that much pain, l would go to the dentist with or without an incsurance card. Explain to the dentist that insurance is on the way and he should be able to give you an antibiotic or a temp. fix if it is a major proble. Small out of pocket cost. Do not wait for it to be somethig worse. Dental insurance is not that great and you still have to pay for part of your visit. Do not let the tooth get worse and then have to have a more expensive procedure done.

If ur insurance is already active, u do not need ur dental card to make an appointment or to be seen.

All u need is the name of ur dental insurance provider & a phone number. This can be given to u by ur human resource person at work.

The receptionist or patient coordinator at ur dental office can usually get all the information they need regarding co-pays, maximum benefits, dental code coverage & deductibles with ur SSN from ur dental insurance company.

In fact u can also call ur dental insurance company & get all of this information yourself prior to making an appointment so u know what kind of coverage u have & have a reasonable expectation on what this should cost you.

Make sure when u call ur dentist that they r in ur insurance network, & make the appointment. Be aware that most dental offices will charge more for an emergency examination.

It is obeousely absessed and you shoud see a doctor. If this is not an option then do as much as posible to kill the bacteria that is around your tooth. Salt water or if you can stand it salt directly on the gum will draw out some of the absesse, you may also want to use a liserine type mouthwash and lots of pain killers. l know what you are going thrue l ve been there myself and it is not any fun. l was desperate too and haed no money, so l haed to wait.

Just go to the emergency room. If you're in that much pain, you need to go!

Also, Staysea made a good point about not needing the card if the insurance is already in effect!
