im about to get braces next month, and l was wondering if they are really painful. my dentist person say that their orthodontists do not use shots...so that is a good thing, but is there after pain???and also does it effect on they way you talk or eat?

Unfortunately, yes, and yes!!
But not for long - a few days to a
week.

It does hurt whenever u go to get them tightened each month. That usually lasts for a few days & it is hard to chew so u have to drink soup.

It does affect the way u eat because food always gets caught in ur braces so u have to brush it out right after each meal, u also can not chew gum or eat anything hard.

l think for the first couple days when u get ur braces it might be weird to talk.

If ur teeth r not that bad & do not look really crooked, then l would just go for visiline or whatever it is called, it is like an invisible mouth retainer. It is a lot easier since u can take it out, & it looks way better too.

The actual process of having them put on does not hurt. They will start to be sore soon though so l would take some Alive or Tylenol before you go.

There is really no reason to be worried about the actual process of having them put on - that is painless.

As your teeth start to shift and move around that is what will be painful.

Having the braces put on is not painful per se. It may be a bit uncomfortable having ur mouth open for so long & ur lips will get dry but it is not actual pain.

Your lips will be sore for about a week as they adjust to the roughness of the braces. Luckily, ur orthodontist will give u a wax u can cover the brackets with to make the surface smoother.

Talking was not an issue for me. After having my braces removed, l had a lisp when l wore my retainer, but braces did not affect my teeth.

The first few days u will want to eat soft foods such as mashed potatoes, noodles, soups, jello, pretty much anything u can just swallow. Each time u get ur braces tightened u will experience some soreness & will want to avoid hard foods then too. I'd also recommend taking a pain reliever each time as well, because there will be soreness.

In the end, the small pain is worth the great smile u will have the rest of ur life.
