Okay im getting braces in like 2 months. Do you have any tips for when having braces like what should l eat, or not eat, how many times a day should l floss, how do l floss, what color braces are best stuff like that thanks :)

Braces r REALLY cool! It is fun to pick the colors & everything! They feel funny at first, but after like 3 days u dont even feel them! People say that they hurt really bad, but all it does is make u mouth kind of sore!OK, here is the story. Orthodontists attach braces to ur teeth with a small amount of cement (Braces r not bolted, riveted, nailed, welded, or chemically melted to ur teeth; a less permanent method is usually preferred). This cement is designed to hold the brackets & bands against ur teeth during normal orthodontic treatment, and, when it is time to remove the braces, scrapes off ur teeth easily without leaving any permanent marks . It does not take much force to remove or ''break'' the braces off ur teeth. That is good because it allows for easy removal when the time is right. However, it is also bad for u because any heavy force put on ur braces could break them off & extend the treatment time.

Hard & sticky foods will break off brackets, bend wires & loosen bands, which , in turn, will extend ur treatment time. Foods high in sugar content could cause cavities, calculus build up, & ugly stains on ur teeth.

So what can u do? Well, u must limit ur diet to soft & healthy foods. l am not saying u can only eat broccoli & mashed potatoes while wearing braces. There r just certain types of food that need to be avoided while wearing braces.

AVOID EATING THESE THINGS:



Hard foods-
Anything that is hard cannot be chewed with braces on. Remember, braces r fragile, & strong forces from hard foods will break them off. Damaged appliances will extend treatment time. Extended treatment time will increase the risk of cavities & stains on ur teeth.
Sticky foods-
Braces can be pulled apart with sticky foods. Again, this could extend ur treatment time.
Anything high in sugar-
Braces make it harder to keep ur teeth clean. Sugar will feed the bacteria that cause cavities. If u do eat any foods high in sugar, brush ur teeth immediately.

Nuts

Peanut brittle

Hard pizza crust

Corn on the cob

Ribs

Doritos, corn chips, hard tacos, cheetos, fritos & the like

Popcorn

Hard pretzels

Hard rolls & bagels

Raw carrots

Bubble gum

Carmel candy

Beef jerky

Suckers

This is just a small list. Remember, nothing hard, sticky, or sweet! How Braces Work: lol :P
Braces straighten teeth by putting steady pressure on ur teeth & by staying in place for a certain amount of time. Most kids just need regular braces with wires & rubber bands doing their jobs to keep pressure on the teeth. The wires on ur braces help to move ur teeth, & the rubber bands help to correct the alignment (say: uh-lyne-munt), the way ur teeth line up.

If ur teeth need a little extra help, u may have to wear head or neck gear with wires attached to ur teeth. If u do have to wear headgear, do not panic! You probably will only have to wear it at night or when you're at home in the evening.

Everyone has to wear braces for different lengths of time, but most people usually wear braces for about 2 years. You will want to take special care of ur teeth after the braces come off. You may need to wear a retainer, which is a small, hard piece of plastic with metal wires or a thin piece of plastic shaped like a mouth guard. Retainers make sure ur teeth do not go wandering back to their original places. Your retainer will be specially molded to fit ur newly straightened teeth.

After u get ur retainer, ur orthodontist will tell u when u have to wear it & how long — u might have to wear ur retainer all day & all night for 2 years, u might have to wear it at night for 6 months, or u might have to wear it every other night for many years. It just depends on ur teeth!! ive never hadf braces thoughBraces act like magnets for food, so u need to keep ur teeth especially clean while u have them on. You will want to brush after meals & be extra careful to get out any food that gets stuck in ur braces. Your orthodontist also may give u a special flosser u can use to floss in & around ur braces. When ur orthodontist changes ur wires, ask if u can do a quick floss (it will be easier without the wires).

You wo not have to go on any special diet when u have braces, but u will want to avoid some foods that r problems for braces. Stay away from popcorn, hard & sticky candy, & especially gum. Sugary sodas & juices can cause a problem, too, because the sugar stays on ur teeth & may cause tooth decay. You can have these drinks, but be sure to brush afterward.

Because braces put pressure on ur teeth, u might feel uncomfortable once in a while, especially after the orthodontist makes adjustments. If u have pain, ask ur mom or dad to give u a pain reliever.

If u ever have a loose wire or bracket, or a wire that is poking you, u should see the orthodontist right away to get it taken care of. If ur orthodontist can not find a problem, he or she may give u some soft wax that u can stick on the bracket that is bothering you. Then it wo not rub against ur mouth.

So braces can be inconvenient, but lots of kids have them & they r definitely worth the trouble. When will u know for sure? On the day ur braces r removed & u can see ur new & improved smile!

flosss:Simply take the stiff end of the dental floss & insert it underneath ur archwire. Pull it gently through.

Congrats first of all. Braces r sooooo wonderful. Both my girls had them & l could not believe the before & after. They both have georgous teeth smiles-you will too!

When ur first get braces, u may experience some slight pain & discomfort. My girls use to take some tylenol for a day or two after & would eat softer types of food. A some point, u will have those braces tightened, same thing applies.

My girls flossed both in the AM after breakfast, & at nighttime. Two-three times a day is pretty good. Your Ortho can show u how to floss best.

Stay away from biting hard things-toffees, hard candy, carmels. Biting apples can be hard, corn on cob. You kind of pick up pretty quick what is hard to eat, vs no problem. Your Ortho should provide u a list of No No's-if not, ask.

And, the best for last-colors: My girls were very creative with colors. January, white. Feb, pink, March, green, April, rainbow, July, red & blue, October, orange & black, December, red & green. See the creative pattern?

watch what u eat for about the first 6 months. & heres a good tip: Eat as much as u can right after u get them on! & im not kidding! the braces hurt the worst the first day after u get them, & youll probably be eating a lot of soft foods in the first week.

but take it from me, after 6 weeks time it is nothing. all of the foods ur orthodontist tells u not to eat do absolutely NO harm. l wolfed down pizza & popcorn like nobody is business & l have sexy teeth now!

i never got in the habit of flossing with braces (because its a painstaking process, & its boring.) but u should get specialized floss with leaders that u feed through the brackets & can floss ur teeth like normal.

MOUTHWASH! the must-have for braces. get phosflour (sp?) Its recommneded by orthodontists. this should keep ur breath smelling nice, even with all that food that gets stuck in those things!!

color? l would go silver or a plain color like blue or pink. avoid black, green, & red because it looks nasty like dirt, food, or blood!

be patient, & try to forget u have them when ur working through it. l had mine for 3.5 years, & just got totally used to it.

um well 1st of all dnt get stressed cuz l know l was really nervous it hurts a lil but its just a lil sore at 1st dey feel weird b careful cuz l got elbowed in da mouth nd my braces cut open my mouth nd gave me a swollen lip day 1st day of school try 2 eat b4 u get them on always keep clean lil braces brush thingys to clean them out after u eat or u will look like a loser brush gud or u will have stank breath or when u em off they're will b squares around ur teeth embrace da fact u have braces cuz l wuld call myself brace face just playin around nd now they're off nd dey look gorgeous when u 1st get em off u kinda look like barbie cuz it looks like u have big white teeth cuz u havnt seen ur teeth 4 awhile but they will look gud trust me dnt b a wuss nd eat ice cream da 1st week cuz dats dumb u will get a lot more cold sores den u usually do now keep pain killers around when u get em tightened l cnt really think of nuthin else hope dis helped gud luck
