ok im getting braces either this year or next year can you tell me each step they do and explain how much it hurts on a scale of 1-10 can you explain it rly good cuz l dont knaw alot about braces and the part of them

It is not that bad. Everyone is pain tolerance is different, but l felt about a three. It can be uncomfortable but not completely painful. This only occurs when they first get put on & when u have ur appointment when they tighten them about once a month. That last no more than a couple of days. l had no problems with braces. The initial spacers r worse han anything & even they r no higher than a five with pain.

l am actually getting ready to get braces again because l have had some set backs with my teeth. Do not worry - this is very rare & u will not have to get them twice!

Braces dont hurt. they just feel sore. Like..hmm..maybe you got a bruise and it hurts to touch for a while. No big deal! dont worry. you will be fine. its actually prettu fun. you get to choose colors :D

My braces barely hurt. When they tighten it, it gets a little painful, & l have springs, which always go .. weird when l eat something hard, like an apple slice. l did get a gum infection ( l think. From what people said on here it sounds like it) from them, though that just might be me. So l would rate them at 5.

It is fun to change the colors, but be careful which ones u pick. In theory neon green & orange sound awesome, but in practice, they look really bad. So yah. XD

l had my braces removed this past Feb., after l had all my wisdom teeth pulled. However, to get my teeth straight after pulling the wisdom teeth l also had to have 2 more teeth pulled on my top.

When they put the braces on the putting braces on is pretty painless; however when they put the wire & the bands on it gets painful l rank it a 10. It hurt so bad after a few hours l had to take the rubber bands off for a day to get used to the pain. My advice is always take tylenol or some other pain killer a few hours before going to get the braces but on.

After u get used to the braces it is painless until u have to go back & get them tightened. Again u will get a new wire & new rubber bands & again it is painful at least a 10.

Removing the braces is AWFUL!!! l think it hurt more than getting my teeth pulled. They will pop the braces off ur teeth & then scrap the cement off; & then polish & clean ur teeth. The popping & scrapping is off the charts painful! Remember to wear ur retainer as instructed by ur dentist!

BTW l was 24 when l got braces so l got clear (white) braces not the normal metal braces worn by children & my bands were clear as well. The wire was still a wire but it was alot less noticable than the regular metal braces.

Good Luck & just remember to take some sort of pain medicine a few hours before going to the dentist before having them tightened & the next day after tightening l could only eat milk shakes because my mouth just plain hurt!

dont worry l got my braces on 7 months ago & have a year left when u get them on they might hurt depends on ur teeth if u have buck teeth like me it hurts like a 8 or a 9 if u just have gaps it wont hurt as much just eat lots of ice cream or yogurt whatever suites u but its deffinatly worth it l had buck teeth now l get more attention from girls l have alot of confindence in myself also & braces helped me alot & l hope they help u goodluck & dont complain about them

l just got my braces so l can tell u the entire process. The process of bracing, for me, was broken up into several appointments.

1. Consultation
l consulted an orthodontist & asked questions about bracing. She examined my teeth. X-rays were taken & she explained about how l need to remove my impacted wisdom teeth & 4 pre-molars for braces.

She also talked to me about payment. l had my molds made after everything. l was then sent to an oral surgeon to have a day set for extraction.

You might or might not need to have teeth extracted. Only ur orthodontist can tell u this. Also, do not be afraid to have a second opinion.

2. Extraction
l had eight teeth removed under general anesthesia. Everything went fine.

3. Separators
7 days after extraction l went back to have separators placed. They r small blue rubber bands that r placed between ur molars to make space for the molar bands. They simply floss the separators in. Expect sharp pain that quickly goes away each time ur orthodontist floss one in.

Separators cause a certain degree of discomfort, but it is not pain. It feels like as if food is trapped at the back. It is very important not to mess with them because if they fall out before the next appointment u will need to go back to have them replaced.

4. Molar Bands
Molar bands r simply metal rings that r put on, well, the molars. The process is painless. It is like buying a ring. They try different sizes of the metal rings & see which size fits ur teeth. When they do find the perfect size, dental glue is applied & the molar bands r placed.

Wax should be given because the molar bands r rather sharp at the sides & can cause ulcers. Other than the sharpness, the molar bands r painless to have.

5. Bonding
This is the last step for initial braces placement. Brackets r bonded to ur teeth & wires placed.

They do several brackets at one time & expose them to UV light (a small hand-held lamp that emits blue light) so that bonding takes place. Apparently, the glue (or something) does it work only when exposed to UV light. This process is repeated until all the required brackets r in place.

l was asked to choose a color after the brackets were placed. Your orthodontist might ask this earlier though. Wires r then placed. The entire process was around 40 minutes for me & was relatively painless.

6. Post Initial Braces Placement
Well, it did not hurt for me until several hours later. When l leave the teeth alone they do not hurt - just a tingling sensation. Biting down hurts though, & l rate the pain a 6.5. Brushing for the first few days is a pain because it hurts to touch the teeth.

The pain, however, goes away after a few days (thank goodness). Expect the pain to come back every time u have the braces tightened though.

It might be wise to note that some people have their braces placed in one single appointment. Mine was separated so l am simply reciting my experience.
