I am kinda scared to get my braces. Everybody says that they hurt like f*ck! now, I am really worried! at first, l was very excited to get braces, because l was going to fix my gap and get straight teeth! But, now I am not so happy. What l need is somebody to tell me EVERYTHING about braces! I am in deep need! The date is coming up soon.............VERY soon! I am very nervous as of right now. l have braces, & when u get used to them they dont hurt at all. they feel like ur normal teeth u have now, just with braces. so when u get used to them, then it feels just fine & normal. when u get them on the first time, then it hurts, to tell u the truth, but it depends how u can take pain. mine hurt for like 5 days. just try to eat soft things when u have them. then after those couple days, then they dont hurt. then when u get them tightened every month, it hurts a little after that. the pain goes away after about three days. hope that helped!

l had my braces taken off a few months ago, & l know a fair amount about them. First of all, yes, they do hurt, but not unbearably. The pain is only temporary too, as the only time u have it is for the first day or so after u get them, & every time they r adjusted. The procedure can be frightening at first, especially if u r afraid of dentist visits like me, but soon, u get used to it. There is not much pain at all while they r being put on, & the pain after fades to discomfort fairly fast. l did not really pay that much attention while they put them on, sorry. But believe me, l was extremely frightened to get them on too, l had also heard bad things. However, it turned out to be not as bad as l thought.

getting the braces put on does not hurt. The staff will clean & prep ur teeth, place the brackets & the doctor will cement them on. Really very easy. Then they will put some wires in & put some ties on the brackets to hold the wire.

Now, about 3 hours later u will fee discomfort but it is bearable. It will last about three days. To help u with this, take an anti-inflammatory before u go to ur appointment & then stay on it every 4-6 hours for three days. The discomfort u will feel is from the fluid build up putting pressure on ur teeth. The anti-inflammatory will reduce the fluid & really helps alot. Another thing to do is massage ur gums with a soft toothbrush. This brings blood to the teeth & helps them heal. Some orthodontists offer a product called a therabite which u can chew on which also brings blood to the teeth, chewing on a washcloth is similar.

Once the three days has passed u will be find until ur next adjustment. Then just do it all again.

you do not have ANYTHING to worry about. l had braces for over 2 years. of course, they might feel uncomfortable for the first 2 or 3 days, but u will get used to them and forget that they are there, l promise. do not worry at all, just take a tylenol meltaway and that gets rid of that little bit of discomfort.good luck!

l just got braces a little while ago, & it is nothing really to be worried about. For the first few days after u get them on, ur teeth will be a bit sore, but that is nothing an Ibuprofin or Tylenol can not fix. It will also be hard to eat for a few days, so stick to soft foods like mashed potatoes, applesauce, soup, smoothies, etc. It is helpful to have some of these foods at ur house beforehand so u can eat right away if you're hungry. Be sure to have a good breakfast that morning with all of the food groups:) But after about a week, u will get used to them!

Be sure to follow ur orthodontist is instructions about brushing, flossing, & what foods u should & should not eat.

Your orthodontist might put on the braces differently than mine, but the basic steps r pretty much the same. First, they will go through a simple process of making ur mouth dry. The dryness feels kind of weird, but all they really do is blow air into ur mouth. Then, they put this thing in to keep ur mouth open. Just be relaxed, & it will feel fine. Then ur brackets will be put on. My orthodontist has a tray shaped like ur teeth that have the brackets positioned in it. After putting the glue on ur teeth, he/she will put the tray on & hold it there for a while. Then, they will use a UV light to make sure the bracket glue is dried. When it is dry, the device makes a beepy noise, haha. Then, u will have a ring- type thing put around ur back teeth. This is to hold the wire. You might have to try different ring sizes, but once ur orthodontist finds the right fit, u will bite down on it repeatedly to make it the shape of ur tooth. Then, they will take it off & apply somewhat stronger glue to it. It will be put back on & then the same beepy light device will be used to make sure the glue is dried. Then, ur wires will be put on, which is pretty easy. Basically they just snap onto the bracket without any pain. Finally, u get to pick the color for ur brackets! Pick a color u like, but u do get to change it during ur monthly adjustments at the orthodontist.

Braces r nothing to be worried about. Your case sounds pretty straightforward like mine, so everything will be ok! Just be relaxed. And in a little while, u will have them off & have perfect teeth! :)

i've had them twice & believe it or not, u will kind of forget sometimes that u have braces on! u will get used to them
but THEY DON'T HURT AT ALL!!!
sometimes they put a ''chain'' on ur braces to pull teeth together to close a gap, that can sometimes be wierd feeling but never enough to take an advil or something

the procedure of getting braces on:
they get this ''cement'' type of stuff & put it on ur teeth & just place the bracket on ur tooth
the procedure NEVER EVER hurts!

So, l heard they hurt like hell for the first couple of days and l will you will practically eat is soup, jello, mashed potatoes, and pudding. They will take a while to put on. Just google it. Take Advil/tylenol before you go and eat lots too. Bring chapstick!
