i'm getting my wisdom teeth out next week and l am SOOO scared!!! i'm scared about the iv... and just the feeling of getting put out... and waking up all loopy... and all the blood... and the most of all .. THE PAIN! how long does the pain last? i'm not getting vicodin, probably just tylenol w/ codeine or something... so is that gonna help at all??

OH, and how long will l be swollen up like a chipmunk? lol
if you could walk me through what its like at the surgery it'd be greaaaaaatly apreciated :)

ahhh im freaking out!!

its really not that big of a deal. the scariest part is getting the shot. if u stress out & get ur heart rate up they wont be able to do the surgery. u need to just be calm & relax! it will hurt pretty bad the first day or two & then u wil lbe fine. u wont get vicodin or codeine, ur surgeron will perscibe u mostly likely 2 things - one for the pain - & one to keep infection away. make sure u take a lot of vitamin c starting the week before. u might be swollen but everyone is different. l was swollen for a week & my brother was fine an hour after his surgery. everyone is different

You're going to be just fine.
When l got mine out, it was a bit of an ordeal, but mine were impacted & infected & that was a really bad way to start off to begin with.
Even with all the pre-existing problems, the major pain was gone within 3 days. l would recommend u requesting a higher level pain pill though, especially if u r having it done on a Friday where u cannot get anything stronger over the weekend, unless u go to the er.

The blood is not that bad, usually with wisdom teeth extractions, they give u stitches which is wonderful as it cuts down the bleeding dramatically & reduces the risk of dry socket.

The being knocked out part does suck, but it is not all that bad, & it helps the day of the extraction become a foggy memory, so a few days later after the pain subsides it will seem like a far off ugly dream.
For me, the swelling never got all that bad, l never looked like a chip monk, but that varies by person, & anti-inflamitory pills such as motrin can greatly reduce swelling, as well as cold compress.

take your vicodin every 3 hours and there will be NO pain.

They knocked me out when l had mine done, so l do not know what the surgery is like. But, the bruising and swelling lasted for well over a week. The pain was only REALLY bad for the first four or five days when l forgot to take my pain pills.

However, l had more than 4 wisdom teeth removed ( l had an extra two on top) and so maybe it wo not hurt as long for you if yours is an easy surgery.

l had mine out about 6 months ago. They did not put me out, so u r pretty lucky. l have been put out for other things though & it is really simple. They put an IV in (It does not hurt even as bad as getting ur toe stepped on) Then, they say ''We r going to give u some anesthesia. Take big deep breaths & Count to 10'' You might only get as far as 3 & ur eyes start to get tired. Then, u r asleep. Just that simple. Next thing u know u r awake. You will have gauze in the back of ur mouth. It does not bleed a ton. They will probably give u pain killer right away. Tylenol w/ codeine will work. It takes about 5 minutes & u will feel the effects of it. It makes u quite tired & relaxed. The pain does not last very long at all. l was back to work the next day. As long as u take ur painkiller u will be just fine. l lived of motrin only & did just great. Just be careful what u eat for a few days.The swelling only lasts a week if even that. Hope this helps!
