l was just wondering, how old do you have to be to get braces for underbite?

My orthodontist says that l should wait til he is sure that my underbite stops growing, but it looks like that it has stopped.
l only have a little underbite; my front bottom teeth is right in front of my front upper teeth. l do not know how exactly how big my underbite is, but l guess 1 mm or even less.

My upper front teeth can actually reach the one or two teeth of the underbite, so should not l be able to wear braces by now?

By the way: I am 14 years old.

Your orthodontist must know better than me.

Typically teeth are fully grown by about 16 but everyone is different. But like your orthodontist has said, there is no specific age, just when you stop growing. It would be pointless putting braces on until you've stopped otherwise it will go back to how it was before. And since it is not too bad then it is worth waiting. x

l think that l have heard that kids that need braces are around your age 14 to 16. So l guess your orthodontist will know.

usually surgery is needed for an underbite. Braces did not work for me.
